Functional Imaging - Advanced Microscopy

The BSRC Fleming Imaging Unit provides expertise and state-of-the-art equipment for modern multidimensional biomedical imaging applications using modern microscopy methods, digital image processing and computational image analysis. The scientific personnel can provide expert guidance to scientists and assistance for projects requiring highly specialized image processing and analysis.
The services provided include:

  • Confocal Imaging Microscopy

  • Wide-field microscopy

  • FRAP (Fluorescent recovery after photobleaching)

  • FRET (Fluorescent resonance energy transfer)

  • FLIM (Fluorescent lifetime Imaging microscopy)

  • Live dynamic imaging (4D image acquisition & real-time detection of cell dynamics on culture plates; 3D matrices and organotypic slices)

    • Combined fluorescence and transmitted light imaging

    • Wide spectrum of fluorophore detection including DAPI, CFP, GFP, YFP, Cy3 and Cy5

    • Imaging of live cells over long periods of time

    • Automatic tiled or multiple area time lapse multi-channel image acquisition

    • Conventional fluorescence microscopy

    • Image processing and analysis of cell dynamics using Zen and ImageJ

    • The optics of the system include 5x, 10x, 25x, 40x and 63x DIC objectives
