Understanding the role of human genetic variation and its functional analysis
Understanding the role of human genetic variation and its functional analysis is the next big step in genomic and precision medicine. The collection of such genomic data and its analysis falls into the category of big data sciences that has become commonplace in the present biomedical research landscape. In addition to this need, an increasing worldwide ageing population warrants the better understanding of the ageing processes and diseases associated with ageing to not only improve longevity but also to improve the quality of long life. These ideas are the basis for the next INFRAFRONTIER / IMPC Conference.
The INFRAFRONTIER / IMPC Conference 2019 provides an excellent opportunity to support a better alignment of INFRAFRONTIER / IMPC platforms with current ageing and big data initiatives, and supports interactions with human genetics centers and clinical consortia to promote the functional analysis of human genetic variation. With this conference, INFRAFRONTIER and IMPC aim to support the significant impact of mouse functional genomics analyses on the understanding of human genetic variation and disease, and the translation into diagnostic and therapeutic approaches.
The main objectives of the INFRAFRONTIER / IMPC Conference 2019 are to:
Raise awareness of INFRAFRONTIER / IMPC platforms among the population genetics research community.
Develop collaborative opportunities in advancing functional genetic variation and ageing research with model organisms.
Present use cases for the utility of model organisms to study genetic variation in population isolates and decipher ageing mechanisms.
Strengthen interactions with ageing and population genetics research consortia.
Showcase emerging insights from IMPC towards understanding functional genetic variation and developing precision medicine.
The conference will build up on the success of the INFRAFRONTIER / IMPC Stakeholder Meetingwhich was held in December 2018 in Munich. It was attended by 200 participants from 22 countries from 5 continents and showcased cutting-edge research involving animal models in the study of rare diseases and the development of gene therapies.
The INFRAFRONTIER / IMPC Conference 2019 is being jointly organised by INFRAFRONTIER, the European Research Infrastructure for the generation, phenotyping, archiving and distribution of model mammalian genomes, by the International Mouse Phenotyping Consortium (IMPC), and by the BioCenter Oulu at the University of Oulu as local host.
